PANDEMIC PARADIGM SHIFT IN PICTURES

HOUSTON

Nearly empty streets in downtown Houston, everyone is working and studying from home. On March 24, a ‘Stay Home, Work Safe’ order was issued for Houston by Harris County Judge Hidalgo.

Our representative, Caroline ten Cate, lives and works in Houston. To show us the unique and surreal situation, she captured the deserted streets and creative ways of getting together at a safe distance (6 feet).

“Public places, schools, playgrounds and restaurants are closed. Houston has a very varied foodscene with over 10.000 restaurants, so plenty of opportunities for take-away or curbside pickup. Drive thru has always been popular (and convenient) in the US and these days more businesses are offering drive thru or curbside pick-up options (where you pay online and the goods get delivered into your car. There are even drive thru parties with garlands and balloons where people drive by to congratulate the birthday boy or girl. During Easter we had a drive thru egg hunt with our kids.”
